Laundry in Hamilton High-Rise apartment buildings
Laundry Rooms
Laundry in Hamilton High-Rise apartment buildings is an everyday activity. Tenants should be entitled to use coin operated automatic washers at there own risk and expense. The same goes for drying machines installed in the building and provided for the convenience of all tenants. The use of washing machines and dryers in common area laundry rooms, if any, shall be subject to any rules, regulations, or notices posted or provided by the Landlord. No laundry shall be hung in, around, or about any common area of the residential complex. In addition, the landlord is free from all responsibility for any damage or loss by reason of the use of the laundry facilities onsite.
Shared Laundry Room Etiquette
Be prepared
One of the best ways to save time and avoid extra time in the laundry room is to sort your laundry before you leave your apartment. In addition, pre-treat stains in advance to keep from needing to carry extra cleaning products with you. Be sure to check pockets for loose change or papers.
When it comes to lugging laundry, smaller is better. Fill a smaller container from your larger bottle to cut down on the amount of weight you have to carry back and forth.
Fabric softener or dryer sheets?
If you want to make the world a softer place and stay static-free, you’ll need to bring these items with you. Again, you may want to consider portioning liquid softener out into smaller containers, or just bring a few dryer sheets with you instead of the whole box.
To get those whites extra sparkly, bring your own bleach. But be careful to avoid any spills. As a courtesy, make sure the washer drains completely after using bleach so that an unsuspecting neighbor doesn’t accidentally bleach the next person’s clothing.
Payment method
Many apartment communities use cards you can pre-load, so make sure you bring that and a payment method to reload your card if needed. If the machines still take coins, save a trip back to your apartment by bringing double the number you expect to use.
Laundry basket. Take a small laundry basket or hamper to leave next to your machine. This way there’s a place for your belongings if someone needs to move them after the cycle ends.
Start a timer or leave a note.
Always make note of the time each load starts so we can retrieve it shortly after it’s completion. Knowing that the laundry facilities will always be in use means we must be prompt. Leave a note or your laundry basket on the washer while our load is in. Leave your first name and phone number on it so someone can call you in case something happens or you forget your laundry altogether.
Be clean
The laundry room in a Hamilton Highrise apartment building is a shared space. Every resident that uses the laundry room is expected to keep it clean and tidy. In addition, tenants should be sure to wipe up any spilled detergent, clean out the lint trap, and throw away used dryer sheets. Discard empty detergent bottles and containers to the trash. With just a little courtesy and some shared laundry etiquette, the communal laundry area can be a clean and friendly place.
Timing
The most important thing to remember is that all tenants should be courteous towards one another. Consider the fact that there are probably a lot of people on similar schedules using a limited number of machines. Try not to monopolize the laundry machines. A load of laundry typically takes 30 to 40 minutes to complete all it’s cycles. Drying a load of laundry typically takes 45 minutes to an hour. Always be sure that you remove your laundry at the end of the cycle end so folks will not have to wait around. Try not to be impatient. Do not remove another persons cloths. Usually, your fellow tenant will be back shortly. Try to think of other tenants when doing laundry in Hamilton High-Rise apartment buildings.
Is It OK to take someone else’s laundry out in Hamilton High-Rise apartment buildings?
This is highly frowned upon in Hamilton High-rise apartment buildings. Always try to give your fellow tenant 15 to 20 minutes to return. After the time has elapsed, deal with delinquent laundry in a courteous way. If their basket is present, gently place the laundry inside of it. Otherwise, remove the laundry and leave it on top of the dryer or a table, if available. Leave a laundry basket because it’s always a good sign that you are in fact coming back.

Tips For Using Shared Laundry Facilities
Keep it fresh
One precautionary measure is to run a cycle or two through with just a bit of vinegar. Since a lot of people are using the same machines day in and day out, you never know what your clothes are going to come out smelling like. Vinegar will aid in eliminating odors in the tub from past cycle’s. No one wants to smell like someone else’s choice of laundry soap. That is not what you pay for when you run a load of laundry. The smell of clean laundry is what you desire as opposed to whatever scent happens to be left behind. This is all part of doing laundry with shared appliances in Hamilton High-rise apartment buildings.
Dirty Washing Machines
Take a few extra seconds to wipe down any surface on the outside of the washing machine with obvious grime on it. Sometimes, tenants will not always get all their soap in the machine. This can create a sticky mess. Rather than cleaning your clothes in something dirty, clean the washing machine before you use it. Wipe up a little first before tossing your clothes in. This preserves the washing equipment for future use.

Doing Laundry at the Laundromat?
What if you have no facilities on site and you have to take your laundry to the local laundromat? In addition to the cleaning routine mentioned in the previous paragraph, always check the rubber seal in the shared rental dryers well as sometimes they are worn or loose. This could increase drying time and cost you more money in the long run for cloths drying.
Always check to see if the last load ran contained bleach. Take a few seconds to determine whether or not the last load in the machine contained bleach. Smell the bleach dispenser to determine this. A few extra steps like this can avoid ruining a load of dark clothes.
Using too much laundry detergent?
It has been proven that excess suds from laundry detergents are hard to rinse clean. Buildup can result and lead to bacteria buildup. Buildup can be seen as residue on the outside of recently laundered clothes.
So how much laundry detergent is good?
It has been proven that most people use twice the recommended amount of laundry detergent on the label. Rather than using a detergent cap, people pour an unmeasured amount of laundry soap into the washer. Try using half as much laundry soap and you should see the same result.
What if you run out of laundry soap?
For the obvious answer; go to the corner store. As detergent alternatives you can at least get your clothes clean if you are in a real pinch. In addition, these alternatives will keep your laundry fresh without causing build-up. Here a few detergent alternatives you can consider when doing your laundry in Hamilton High-Rise apartment buildings.
Any detergent left at all? Dilute it With Water
If you at least have some detergent left, try putting a small amount of warm water into the empty bottle of laundry detergent and swirl it around if you have a liquid detergent. Perhaps you will be able to create enough of the diluted laundry product to be able to complete one more load of laundry.

Grated Bar Soap and Borax
As a good laundry detergent supplement, try other household cleaning products. Did you know regular bar soap can be grated and combined with Borax to create a very effective laundry detergent alternative. Yes, use a butter knife or spoon to break up a bar soap. Add the grated bar soap to ½ cup of Borax. Then add some dish soap. Mix the solution and use it like normal laundry detergent.
Baking Soda
For an added boost of cleaning power, if you have it, you can add a cup of baking soda to the drum before adding clothes. Baking soda is very effective in the laundry room. It’s able to remove acids, oils and even odors, leaving your clothing smelling clean and fresh. Since it’s a natural product, it’s safe to use baking soda in your laundry over a long period of time.
Vinegar
White vinegar added to a wash cycle can break down stains and odors. Vinegar will leave your clothes fresher and cleaner than when they entered the washing machine. Vinegar should always have a place on your laundry room shelf, even when you finally do stock up on your favorite detergent. To use vinegar as a laundry detergent alternative, simply add a cup of white vinegar to your machine the same way you would add detergent.
Hot Water
Hot water will provide the most cleaning power. Just set the wash cycle to hot water or high temperature, set the soil level to heavy, and select steam options. Avoid using delicate or speed wash settings. When it comes time to dry clothes, set the machine to normal, heavy-duty, or sanitizing and dry for 40 minutes or more.

How Do Laundry Dryer Sheets Work?
Dryer sheets are designed to slowly release fabric softeners during the drying process. Fabric sheets actually lubricate the fabric with a coating that prevents static and creates the sensation of softness. With regular use of fabric softeners or dryer sheets, clothing can actually deteriorate over time. Some say relying on the regular use of dryer sheets can make towels less absorbent. Be sure to read the labels on your clothing to avoid damage to your laundry. Avoid dryer sheets with excess perfumes. Pet hair repelling dryer sheets are now available in most stores. Dryer sheets and fabric softeners can help reduce wrinkles, lint, and static as well as add softness to your clothes.
What Is a Good Dryer Sheet Alternative?
One alternative solution would be wool dryer balls can last for years. Instead of just imitating softness, the balls rub and beat the fabric to mechanically soften the fiber. They bounce around to separate the clothing, which helps the heat circulate evenly and prevents the buildup of friction and static.

Bring Your Own Supplies
Do not use washing materials that belong to others. If it is not yours, and somebody left it out it does not mean you can just go ahead and use it without asking. Someone else’s supplies are off limits. When you come to the laundry room to clean your cloths bring your own soap and softeners. Store your supplies in your laundry basket under your clothes. That way, you’ll never forget to bring them along to the laundry room. Include your detergent, dryer sheets, fabric softener, and stain fighter when heading out to do your laundry in Hamilton High-Rise apartment buildings.
Wet Laundry left behind
Chances are someone else is probably waiting on your clothes to be moved from the washer to the dryer. In a busy Hamilton Highrise apartment building, there usually are a number of people just waiting for a chance to take their turn. A good approach to being considerate to your fellow tenants is to set a timer to remind yourself when to switch the load. In addition to your neighbor being grateful, your clothes will be free from mildew and unwanted odors.
Clean Out Excess Dryer Lint
A constant in the laundry world is a full lint screen. If you’re in a shared situation, always clean your own lint out of the screen when you remove your dry clothes. It’s a two-second task that makes the next person’s life a little bit easier. The garbage can in the laundry room is for lint and dryer sheets only.

Happy laundering. Always to be aware of your surroundings and be sure to stay safe when doing Laundry in Hamilton High-Rise apartment buildings.
